Inspired by the Van Gogh exhibition in Wuppertal, we developed the concept of allowing viewers to experience images on multiple levels by using their own phone. At a time when images are often consumed quickly, this work invites viewers to slow down and gain a deeper understanding of the image and the artist through listening. This Starry Night is composed of several factors: a three-dimensional moving image that uses additional audio to create emotion and intimacy.
Visitors see an easel with a golden picture frame and a poster. There is a QR code on the floor in front of the easel. Visitors scan this code and point their mobile phones at the picture frame. The poster inside acts as a target on which our animated 3D model of Starry Night can be placed. Users also have the option of playing the audio. The frame then nestles around the image, suggesting a classic museum visit.
Scan the code with your mobile phone...
and point the camera at the poster!
Do you see the night the same way Van Gogh did?
